Inspiration / Sketch / Execution for "Artflare" Collection
ArtFlare is a five piece collection that showcases prominent paintings from art history. I was inspired by the viewer's engagement with these paintings within the context of the museum, and how there lies a tension behind the restriction of a velvet museum rope or a suggested line on the floor of a gallery space. In viewing these paintings I desired to be fully enveloped by their colors, textures and content, not only to see them but also to touch them. I was interested in these paintings becoming sculptural in adhering to the human body. This was also a critique of the art institution's limited accessibility for the public. In redesigning these paintings as clothes, they could walk outside of the museum or gallery space and become activated on the streets.
Sketches for "Finale" Collection
Finale is a four piece collection and installation that takes inspiration from the progression of a firework show. These garments imitate the momentum of each firework as it is propelled into the sky, soon to burst with explosive energy and beauty. This project focuses itself on femininity and power dynamics as well as escapism. These outfits are to be activated as an alternative force for self-love, female empowerment, and positive energy in light of tragedies and violence that are experienced daily and on a global scale.
A firework illuminates the darkness,
disrupting the night sky to bring awe to the masses,
so that,
if only for a few moments,
we might experience communal joy.
